     https://hiset.ets.org/prepare/materials/  HiSET test prep materials

Here is some information about obtaining your High School Equivalency Diploma (HSE). Many people refer to this diploma as the “GED.”

The name of the high school equivalency test offered in Morris County is HiSet. You can find some free information and practice tests here: https://hiset.ets.org/test-takers

There are five sections on the test: Language Arts Reading, Language Arts Writing, Math, Science, and Social Studies.

How can Literacy Volunteers of Morris County (LVMC) help me?

    1. LVMC can match you with a free tutor to help you with your HSE test preparation for one hour per week.
    2. This tutor can help you with one section of the test (example, math) or multiple sections (example, reading, math & social studies).

Please note: LVMC does NOT administer the test.

    Important recommendations:

    • Students should be prepared to spend several hours a week outside of tutoring time studying, taking online modules (such as Khan Academy), and taking practice tests (found online or in test prep books). It is NOT enough to just attend the one hour session each week.

    • Students seeking a GED who have been out of high school for a long time, or who never attended high school, should consider taking one of the basic skills classes offer at Morris County Vocational School. (This is 5-10 hours of instruction per week.) https://mcvts.augusoft.net/index.cfm?method=templates.CustomTemplatePreview&ContentID=162

    • Many students find it helpful to get a  book to guide their preparation, we recommend the publishers Kaplan or ETS. You can find some at the library or Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Official-Guide-HiSET-Exam-Second/dp/1259640795/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=hiset&qid=1603122719&sr=8-4

    • If you need help with math, many of our students find the FREE classes on Khan Academy to be very helpful. https://www.khanacademy.org/

To register for the exam, or to find out about your eligibility:

Please contact the Morris County Vocational School in Denville (973-627-4601 x. 245) or visit:  https://mcvts.augusoft.net/index.cfm?method=templates.CustomTemplatePreview&ContentID=162
