Welcome!

Literacy Volunteers of Morris County (LVMC) helps adults in Morris County, New Jersey improve their ability to read, write or speak English.  We are a FREE program.

To participate in our program, students must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Live or work in Morris County
  • Plan to live in the U.S.A. permanently or for two or more years

Steps to Become a Student

We are not currently accepting new students.  Please check back in June.

 Complete an online application.*

  1. Once we receive your application, a member of our office staff will contact you to set up an appointment within 7 business days. Appointments will be scheduled to take place over Zoom or in-person.
  2. At the appointment, we will discuss our program and find out more about your learning needs and availability.  We may also assess your English language level or reading level.
  3. After we have met with you, we will begin the process of matching you with a tutor or placing you into a small group. Please note this may take several weeks.

*If you cannot access the online application, please call our office at 973-984-1998, and a member of our staff will assist you.

Tutoring is typically one hour, one time per week.

Student can choose to be tutored in-person at a public location such as a library or coffee shop.  Or students can choose a remote tutoring option such as Zoom, FaceTime, or Skype. We will do our best to accommodate preferences.
